George Harrison’s Cavern Club Guitar To Be Sold For $500,000

A guitar played by George Harrison during his final ever appearance at Liverpool’s iconic Cavern Club is reportedly expected to sell for an eye-watering $500,000 (£386,000).

The Maton Mastersound MS-500 was first played by The Beatles star after he sent his Gretsch Country Gentleman for repairs at Manchester’s Barratts, where the owner lent him the guitar as a temporary replacement.

But after getting back his Gretsch, Harrison decided to keep the Maton and used it during multiple Beatles shows – including their last Cavern show on Aug. 3, 1963.

Now, UK auctioneers Gardiner Houlgate claim that the unique piece of rock history could fetch up to half a million dollars when it is sold at auction next month.
“After the Maton was returned to Barratts, Dave Berry and The Cruisers guitarist Roy Barber swapped it for his Fender Stratocaster”, a sales listing claims.

“He was told that the guitar was The Maton used by Harrison. Barber used the guitar for several years, later putting it into storage.”
